Accounts of Recovery!
We invite you to join us at our regional conference as
we celebrate the value of support and education as key ingredients
in "A Recipe for Recovery."
King Davis, PhD, Director of the Hogg Foundation for Mental
Health, and Professor, School of Social Work, University
of Texas at Austin will provide the keynote address. Dr.
Davis previously served as the William and Camille Cosby
academic chair, Howard University. Additionally, Dr. Davis
has experience within the public mental health arena, as
he is the former Commissioner, Department of Mental Health,
Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse for the Commonwealth
of Virginia.
King Davis is an expert in the areas of cultural competency
and mental health disparities for underserved populations
and is currently undertaking research in understanding the
benefits of sibling and parental involvement in care giving
for individuals with mental illnesses.
The full-day conference will offer 24 workshops on topics
of interest to consumers, family members, and professionals
alike. A sampling of the workshop topics include: Best Practices
for Treating Dually
Diagnosed Adolescents and Their Families; Meeting the Mental
Health Needs of Underserved Rural Populations; Positive
Partnerships - How Peer Staff and Providers Can Work Together;
Financial and Estate Planning; Cultural Competence; and
Consumer/Family Satisfaction Teams.
During the Conference Luncheon, we will acknowledge personal
"Recipes for Recovery"; written accounts of what
recovery means to individuals personally will be printed
within the conference luncheon brochures.
