NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania Leads the Movement to Take
Back More Than Two Decades of Life
Too many of us are dying young. Today, dramatic improvements in
lifespan are being recognized by the vast majority of Americans,
but those with serious mental illness in our country are now dying
25 years earlier than the general population. In an age where it
has been an American birthright that each generation live longer
than the last, why is the disparity for those with mental illness
so great, and why is this trend expected to continue? The 2009 NAMI
Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Conference explores the complex
answers to these difficult questions.
