The
Infinite Mind's Hurricane Katrina Coverage
Wins Prestigious National Headliner Award
The Infinite Mind is a winner of a prestigious 2006 National Headliner
Award for its coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The Infinite Mind was the first national broadcast to cover, and
to explore in-depth, the mental health impact of the disaster through
a series of special reports, ongoing reporting, and a weblog set
up to offer support, resources, and ongoing information.
The Infinite Mind's special reports "In
the Wake of the Storm" and "The
Road to Recovery," which aired in the days following
the disaster, looked at the physical and mental trauma that accompanied
the storm's destruction, as well as the expected toll on the long-term
psychological health of those worst hit. The programs featured leading
experts in the field, a live report on the mental health crisis
from the floor of the Astrodome, a look at social implications for
Katrina's survivors, and an examination of what it would take for
the nation to heal.
You

As part of this effort, The Infinite Mind facilitated grass roots
partnerships between local chapters of the National Mental Health
Association and the National Alliance for Mental Illness, and public
radio stations across the country.
A special weblog is set up to accompany this effort, which allows
listeners to download free copies of the programs and obtain critical
information. The site continues to be updated and has become a leading
source of information regarding the mental health impact and recovery
from Hurricane Katrina.
