Rapp to Host House Republican Policy Hearing on Mental Illness
and Substance Abuse Among Prison Inmates

WHAT: Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Forest/McKean) will co-chair a House Republican Policy Committee Hearing regarding mental illness and substance abuse among state and county prison inmates. Rapp's resolution calling for a study to determine the approximate number of state and county prison inmates suffering from mental illness and substance abuse will also be discussed. The Department of Public Welfare's announcement of the closure of Mayview State Hospital in Allegheny County and the potential privatization of forensic staff at both the Warren and Norristown state hospitals, prompted Rapp to author her resolution and call for this hearing.

WHO: Rep. Rapp, House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and other House Republican Policy Committee members. Individuals scheduled to testify, include Kim Allen, parent; David Bauer, Warren County Commissioner; Ken Kopczynski, Pennsylvania State Correctional Officers Association; Mary Kushner, Director ,Warren-Forest Human Services; Richard B. Seager, CEO, Deerfield Behavioral Health; and Thomas Urban, President and CEO, Beacon Light.
