NAMI PEER-TO-PEER RECOVERY EDUCATION PROGRAM

What is NAMI Peer-to- Peer? A free, 10 week course for adults living with mental illness that is expanding in 29 states throughout the country. Peer‐to‐Peer provides an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope.

Peer-to-Peer classes meet once a week for 2 hours, offering a wealth of information on mental health and recovery.

 

Peer-to-Peer classes are free and confidential

 

Peer-to-Peer is open to any adult living with a mental illness

 

Peer-to-Peer classes are taught by trained Peer Mentors living in recovery themselves

 

What are some of the course topics? Relapse prevention, brain biology and research, mental illness symptoms, stigma and recovery, cultural perceptions of mental health, mindfulness, spirituality, substance abuse and addiction, physical health, suicide and prevention, working with providers, advance directive for mental health care, empowerment and advocacy, and personal stories

Cost: Free but this course offering is limited to Cumberland or Perry County residents

Support Group Facilitator Training

This training is designed for facilitators to learn and practice specific skills that will help to guarantee a meaningful support group experience. During the weekend we will focus on specific techniques for shaping, invigorating and improving the group experience in support group meetings.

Cumberland/Perry County

Choices in Recovery Education Program

Plan to be with us on Thursday, May 3, 2012 and for a special event and light dinner in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month 2012 for a talk on "Achieving Wellness and Recovery" with Richard G. Petty, M.D. http://richardpettymd.com/

 

The time is from 6:15 pm to 8:30 pm at Fredricksen Library which is located at 100 N. 19th Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011. The Fredricksen Library is not sponsoring or endorsing this program or any goods or services offered.

 

This event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is needed and can be done by emailing findhope@namipacp.org or calling Theresa at 717-423-6907.

 


York County

 

Family-to-Family is a FREE  12-week course for family and friends of persons living with mental illness. The classes are designed to support and educate families.

 

It is taught by 2 trained NAMI family members who have also lived through similar experiences of dealing with a loved one living with mental illness.

 

Some of the topics covered are: types and symptoms of mental illnesses, medications, coping and communication skills, empathy, problem solving and recovery.
