Family to Family Educational Course
The
NAMI Pennsylvania Family-to-Family Education Course is a free 12-week
course, one evening per week, for family caregivers of individuals
with severe brain disorders (mental illnesses). All instruction
and course materials are free for class participants.
The Family-to-Family curriculum focuses on schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder (manic depression), clinical depression, borderline
personality disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder
(OCD), and the dual diagnosis of mental illness together with substance
abuse. The course discusses the clinical treatment of these illnesses
and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to
cope more effectively.

Course Background
What did Beethoven, Churchill, Lincoln, Poe and VanGogh have in
common? MENTAL ILLNESS! One in four families have a relative suffering
(some quietly) from a mental illness. The day to day struggles can
be overwhelming.
For those of close relatives with:
-Bipolar Disorder*
-Major Depression
-Borderline Personality Disorder
-Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder
-Panic Disorder
-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
-Co-occurring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorders
* Also called Manic Depression
A series of 12 weekly classes, once per week, structured to help
family members understand and support their ill relative while maintaining
their own well being. The course is taught by a team of trained
volunteer family members who know what it's like to have a loved
one with a serious mental illness in the family. There is no cost
to participate in the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program.
Over 50,000 family members in the U.S. and Canada have completed
this course. We think you will be pleased by how much assistance

Family to Family Teacher Training-
for those interested in teaching the Family to Family Course.
The Family-to-Family Teacher Training is a three day training designed for individuals who have taken
the Family to Family course and are interested in teaching the course
in the future.
